Death

While a soul belongs to Allah SWT and will return to Him in time [Quran 2:156], it is always a painful moment to see our loved ones depart. Losing somebody we love is unrivalled in its emptiness and deep sorrow. It is almost like you have stopped functioning altogether. And there will be a new life ahead of you, a life where your loved one is not going to be physically present. There will be times when you would be excited to share something with them, such as your graduation or getting married or having children, but then it will hit you that they are no longer with you. In order to prevent yourself from becoming emotionally numb, make Dua(supplication) for them. This is perhaps a believer’s greatest weapon. Once they have departed from this world, that is when they will be in desperate need of our Dua. Moreover, have Sabr(patience). This is undoubtedly the most difficult quality to grasp when coping with grief. But, you must allow yourself time to heal. Essentially, Sabr enables a Muslim to show faith and satisfaction with Allah’s decree. Sabr does not mean that we should not allow ourselves to feel our sorrow or cry out, for the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) had tears in his eyes when losing his son, Ibrahim. Yet, one thing that we must not do is question Allah’s decree.
